In 2007, Dan established The Pinnell Group, focusing on expertise in Boundary and Topographic Surveys. Serving as the chief Surveyor, he has played a pivotal role in numerous prestigious developments. His notable projects include the oversight of the 8 billion dollar expansion of the STP Nuclear Plant in Wadsworth, Texas, involving the addition of two nuclear reactors. Additionally, Dan has led the surveying efforts for the 60 million dollar expansion of the Bayer Plant in Baytown, Texas, as well as numerous concrete tilt wall business parks scattered throughout Texas. His influence extends to a significant 1,100-acre residential development in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, showcasing a diverse and extensive portfolio of Surveying accomplishments.
Dan's profound journey into Land Surveying is a narrative deeply rooted in destiny and familial tradition. Raised in The Woodlands, Texas, Dan, a third-generation Surveyor, was introduced to the intricacies of the profession from an early age. He spent summers at his father Robert's side, carrying a 5-gallon bucket filled with a steel tape, chaining pins, and a plumb bob, all of which laid the foundation for a lifelong passion.
After completing high school, Dan pursued a Civil Engineering degree at Texas A & M, supported by a pole-vaulting scholarship. His educational trajectory led him to the University of Houston's College of Technology, where he delved into Land Surveying & Mapping. Simultaneously, he worked diligently at Pinnell Survey, Inc., guided by his father, while also attending evening classes to broaden his knowledge. In 1996, Dan graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Technology (Land Surveying), accompanied by a minor in AutoCAD.
Demonstrating a steadfast commitment to professional advancement, Dan embarked on an arduous journey of preparation for the state board exam, triumphantly passing in the Fall of 1999. Two years later, his dedication extended to obtaining registration in Oklahoma. Today, as founder and a pivotal figure at The Pinnell Group, Dan contributes over four decades of surveying expertise, with 23 years as a licensed professional.
Driven by an unwavering dedication to public service, Dan remains resolute in his mission to further the field's excellence. In keeping with a rich familial legacy, Dan actively mentors his son, Connor, ensuring the seamless transition of the Pinnell tradition to a fourth generation of Surveyors. Through each chapter of his professional and personal journey, The Pinnells epitomize a legacy of passion, expertise, and a profound commitment to the future of Land Surveying.
